Take the Long Way Home
Project Description:
“Take the Long Way Home” creates a large, shaded public plaza on the outskirts of Phoenix that gives bus riders a comfortable and welcoming place to wait. The design features integrated shade screens, decorative railings, and seating that together define a strong and intentional entry into the site.
We fabricated the cut-steel panels with stylized imagery inspired by nearby foothills, roadways, and local history. We also developed the designs to meet strict public safety requirements while maintaining a visually rich and durable finish that performs in a high-traffic transit environment.
As a result of the success of the initial installation, we completed two additional Park and Ride projects using the same architectural framework. However, each location features its own unique artwork that reflects the surrounding neighborhood. One site incorporates cowboy imagery that references the area’s agricultural past. Another draws inspiration from Japanese-American flower farms that operated in the mid-20th century.
Overall, “Take the Long Way Home” establishes a cohesive design language across multiple transit spaces while allowing each location to express its own cultural and historical identity.
