Shadow Play
Project description:
Shadow Play transforms a traffic median into a vibrant public space at Roosevelt Row in downtown Phoenix, using clusters of geometric steel shade structures to provide relief from the desert sun. Each module, made from folded steel plates, forms a rigid cell that, when aggregated, creates an angular canopy that filters sunlight, casts dynamic shadows, and allows for airflow. Photovoltaic panels on top capture energy to power evening illumination, turning the canopy into an active, site-specific urban platform that reclaims underused space and brings pedestrians together.
